What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as Chiropractors or Chiropractic Physicians – practice a drug-free, hands-on integrative approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling (See more about Functional Health care options in our Overland Park office). – American Chiropractic Association
What type of chiropractic
technique do we use?
In our Overland Park chiropractic office we utilize a low-force, instrument-based adjustment approach known as Activator Methods®. Activator Methods® originated in 1967 and uses a spring-loaded, hand-held instrument. Activator is the only instrument-based adjusting instrument with clinical trials to back up its efficacy. The Activator instrument delivers a quick, low-force impulse that restores joint motion without triggering muscle spasm. This creates an effective, gentle chiropractic adjustment.
What can you expect from a new patient chiropractic appointment in our Overland Park office?
New patient appointments start with a detailed patient history, a discussion of the patient’s goals, review of past treatments and an orthopedic and neurological exam of your area of complaint. After a thorough history and exam, if you are a candidate for chiropractic care, we will discuss our treatment recommendations with you. You will then be given an opportunity to ask any questions you may have, and we will discuss when to begin care. In most cases, an adjustment is performed on the first visit. Our doctors also work with you to ensure your exercise regimen, workstation ergonomics and sleep posture are all working together to keep your spine and skeletal system functioning properly.
